Terminal 5 In FlightTerminal 5 In FlightSuspended among the clouds, Eero Saarinen’s iconic TWA Terminal 5 “Flight Center” soars once again, its bird-like form perfectly at home in flight despite being crafted from tons of concrete. Completed in 1962, this masterpiece of mid-century modernist architecture captured the optimism and elegance of the jet age, symbolizing air travel’s golden era.

Though preserved as a national landmark, the terminal now finds itself dwarfed and partially enclosed by the sprawling JetBlue terminal and the adjacent TWA Hotel towers—its presence somewhat diminished. In this composition, however, the Flight Center is once again set free, reclaiming its place dominating the skyline and evoking the visionary spirit it embodied upon opening.
